In recent years, there have been food safety issues associated with imported egg products – when you move away from the controls and guaranteed standards of the British Lion mark, the risk becomes greater.

In recent years, there have been food safety issues associated with imported egg products – when you move away from the controls and guaranteed standards of the British Lion mark, the risk becomes greater.

Importantly, we are accredited to supply British Lion Quality eggs and egg products, so our customers are assured of the highest standards of traceability and consistency of supply – all our birds lay on farms with the highest welfare standards.

The British Egg Industry Council (BEIC), founded in 1986, set up a Code of Practice which guarantees the highest food safety standards for shell eggs and egg products:
• Vaccination of hens against salmonella
• Detailed and stringent Codes of Practice for egg production and packing, feed production and egg processing
• Full traceability throughout the process
• Independent auditing of all parts of the supply chain

The good news with using British Lion eggs is that even runny eggs are safe to eat, for all age groups. Furthermore, there are no restrictions, despite previous recommendations, on how many you can eat. Major UK heart and health advisory groups now agree that the dietary cholesterol they contain does not increase the risk of heart disease in most healthy people.

As well as the safety benefits, there is a rise in demand for British products being used, with research clearly showing that consumers want British eggs to be used in prepared foods containing egg, now is the time for food businesses to give them what they want, relying on the Lion for surety of supply and the highest standards of food safety.
